Change of ownership

From 13th December 2019, Class Of Their Own was bought by Pioneer Childcare. Established in 2006, Pioneer Childcare is owned by Dan McCaffrey and is based in Haywards Heath.

Class Of Their Own was set up by Sam Thomson in 2001, with just three children at a Holiday Club in Brighton. Following the initial success Sam was asked to set up an After School Club. Sam saw an opportunity, gave up teaching and started to grow the company. Sam was joined by her sister, Tanya Petherick in 2006, and together the sisters focussed on delivering a high quality provision to local families. Today, Class Of Their Own runs Breakfast, After School and Holiday clubs in 13 local schools in Brighton & Hove and the surrounding area.

“After 18 years of running Class Of Their Own I feel like I have seen the company grow from infancy into a fully-fledged adult. As parents and carers know, your aim in life is for your child to grow into a well-rounded individual and for them to go out and thrive in the world on their own two feet. I know that I have instilled the company with strong values, and I feel confident that the company will continue to grow and thrive without mine and Tanya’s input”. Sam Thomson

“When we first considered selling the company, we did not know who would buy it. As another local provider, we knew Dan and approached him directly and were delighted when he made us an immediate offer to buy the company. We would not have sold to just anyone. Dan is local, he has great values and we feel that he has the right skills to allow Class Of Their Own to continue to thrive. We have got a new business idea we want to pursue and although we are sad to say goodbye, we are confident we have made the right decision for us and the company.” Tanya Petherick

“I am delighted to be purchasing Class Of Their Own. As an established business providing high quality childcare in Brighton & Hove (and the wider community), Class Of Their Own is a trusted name that I am honoured to be inheriting. Initially, it will be business as usual, and I am excited to get out and about to meet the staff, schools, parents, carers and of course the children. I look forward to great things in 2020 and beyond.” Dan McCaffrey
